  • Divi Meetup Community Update: WCEU & June 2023

    Hey, Divi Fam! 🎆🏖️🎇

June just left the building, and summer is going by fast! With all the traveling that usually happens, I’m surprised work doesn’t slow down. 😅 Nope. Here at ET we’re (I’m) attending WordCamps, facilitating Divi meetups, and the whole team is working hard on Divi 5.0. (have you seen the latest update?).
It’s all good, though. When you do what you love, it hardly feels like work, know what I mean?
How do you balance Summer and work? Comment below! 🙏🏼

Let’s see how our current Divi meetups hosted their June events.

    WordCamp Europe 2023

WordCamp Europe was held in Athens, Greece this month! I attended and represented Elegant Themes and had such a blast! At the last minute, I was pulled in to volunteer. 😅 I got to interview WordPressers throughout the day on Friday AND I had the pleasure of emceeing on Saturday morning. 🙌🏼 I had a fantastic time and was in my element, truly.

Divi-Chicago Meetup was a round table discussion on what’s happening in everyone’s daily use of Divi. Building websites, combining layouts, revising content. With all the work we’re doing in Divi we’re still experiencing repetitive styling and not using all of the features available. We’re going back to the basics of Divi; it’s the tool of our trade.

We love your tenacity, Divi Chi-Town! 💥

But yeah I discuss a bit how we will grow this community more. Looking to conduct a great meetup next month.

It’s successful in our eyes! 😍 Don’t be discouraged. 💯

Hello from Divi Los Angeles Meetup. We had two Meetups this month continuing the theme of Divi Basics. The early June Meetup is the one we walked through the Divi ‘Visual Builder.’ This was a tour of the Visual Builder from both within the WordPress Editor and editing directly with the Front End Visual Editor. We covered how to bounce between the WordPress Editor and the Visual Editor and why you may need to work in both.

The later June Meetup is the one where we began a tour of ‘Sections, Rows, and Modules’ – the key elements of Divi. This included sharing how they work, ways you may want to use them, and how to mix-and-match modules from various pre-built Divi Layouts. We then started a review of each Divi Module starting with the Accordion and working our way to the Video Slider. However, due to time constraints, we only got to the “C’s” with the “Countdown Timer”.

Our next two Meetups will have us going over the remaining Divi Modules with the early July Meetup covering the “Divider” to “Photo Carousel” modules, and the late July Meetup covering “Post Navigation” to the “Video Slider”.

Come and learn with us. Checkout our Meetup page for dates and times!

I love what you’re doing with the LA group, Julius! ♥️

This was a fantastic, informative discussion, intended to help newbies to WordPress and Divi get started on the right track in their careers. We covered several sub-topics from how to define one’s scope of services, to business licenses, to tracking expenses for tax purposes.

    Happy June, Divi Fam! 🌻

The year is FLYING by! 😮 We’re entering the final month of Q2 and rounding on mid-year. Are you on track with your goals? Have you hit your goals already? Have you lost track? 😅 Wherever you’re at, this is a good time to check in and take inventory. The summer usually causes business in our field to slow down, so no excuses. 😜

Let’s Welcome Our Newest Meetup Host & Group!

Please give a warm welcome to our newest group and host! 😅 Divi Uyo is here!

    Divi Uyo, Nigeria

    Benjamin Offiong of Dvi Uyo.

    Meet the host, Benjamin Offiong:

I am a web designer, highly experienced and skilled in digital marketing with over a six years of experience in the industry. I am also a community leader, leading an online community of over 26,000 members who are business owners, wholesalers, retailers and buyers. I have a proven track record in business development and growth through innovative and results-driven strategies.

Recently, I have taken a keen interest in the Divi web builder after seeing several youtube ads. I researched about its features and functionalities and have found it to be a powerful tool for creating visually appealing and highly functional websites. Divi’s drag-and-drop interface, extensive design options, and responsive capabilities have impressed me as a web designer, as it allows for efficient website creation and customization without requiring advanced coding skills. I really want to explore more about Divi in order for me to help and empower other techies and non techies with the best tool to create engaging landing pages, visually appealing websites, and seamless user experiences with this amazing tool.

    – My Passion for Community Building: I have a natural inclination towards community building and fostering connections among like-minded individuals. Leading a Divi meetup group would allow me to create a community of individuals who share a common interest in web designing using Divi web builder, and provide a platform for them to learn, share ideas, and collaborate within the WordPress ecosystem.

    – I believe that my fair understanding of divi features and functionalities would serve as a strong foundation for me to lead a Divi meetup group, as I would be able to share my knowledge, tips, and best practices with the community, and help others maximize the potential of Divi for their websites.

    – My Desire to Stay at the Forefront of Industry Trends: Leading a Divi meetup group would provide me with an opportunity to stay at the forefront of website design and user experience trends, as Divi is a popular and constantly evolving software. By leading a Divi meetup group, I can continuously learn from other members, stay updated with the latest updates and features of Divi, and stay ahead of the curve in terms of leveraging Divi for effective website design and marketing strategies.

    – Personal Fulfillment and Networking Opportunities: I love to share knowledge because it gives me some level of fulfillment and I believe that leading a meetup group can offer networking opportunities, allowing me to connect with other professionals in the industry, expand my network, and potentially generate new business or collaboration opportunities.

Thanks for stepping up for the community, Ben Moon!

    Divi Los Angeles is back!

After a brief hiatus, we have returned with a series of presentations focused on the basics with Divi Basics. With Divi Basics we are breaking down everything about Divi for those who are new to Divi or thinking of using Divi to build their website.

Our first Meetup was early in the month. This session kicked of the Divi Basics series with an Intro to Divi – what it is, what it does and a walkthrough of all the major features. We had a small energized group of new Divi users ready with a lot of great questions.

The most recent Meetup stepped through the intersection of WordPress and Divi. The goal here was to explore which, and how specific WordPress features interact with Divi. Another wonderful group came together with humor and interest in the topic.

On deck are two June Meetups. We’ll cover Divi’s Visual Builder in the first session, and a couple of weeks later we will get into Sections, Rows, and Modules – the building blocks of Divi. Curious what makes Divi so great for your website project? Then join Divi Los Angeles to get in on these Meetups!

    Back to basics, FTW! 😀

🌐🧱 How to Build a Website from Scratch using Divi Builder: A Beginner’s Guide 🌐🧱

We recently had an exciting online meetup titled “How to Build a Website from Scratch using Divi Builder: A Beginner’s Guide.” It was a fantastic opportunity for individuals interested in web development to gather and learn the fundamentals of building a website using Divi Builder. We had a total of six attendees, including two participants who had an extra person joining them in the same room. The geographical diversity of our attendees made the event even more special, with two joining in from Mexico, one from Canada, and the remaining attendees located in Alicante, Spain.

The meetup focused on empowering beginners to embark on their website-building journey using Divi Builder, a powerful and user-friendly tool. Participants were introduced to the key concepts of web development and guided through the step-by-step process of creating a website from scratch. Divi Builder’s intuitive drag-and-drop interface enabled everyone, regardless of their technical expertise, to design and customize their websites with ease.

Throughout the meetup, attendees actively engaged in discussions, sharing their experiences and asking insightful questions. The supportive and inclusive atmosphere fostered a collaborative learning environment, allowing everyone to grasp the fundamental principles of web design and development.

By the end of the session, all participants gained valuable insights into building a website using Divi Builder. Armed with newfound knowledge, they are now equipped to embark on their own web development projects with confidence. We are excited to witness the incredible websites they will create in the future!
We would like to express our gratitude to all the attendees for their active participation and enthusiasm. A special thanks to our friends from Mexico, Canada, and Alicante, Spain, for joining us and making this meetup a truly global event.

Stay tuned for future events where we will continue exploring exciting topics in web development and design. Remember, the journey of website creation begins with a single step, and with Divi Builder and our supportive community, there are no limits to what you can achieve!

Please give a warm welcome to our new host! We just onboarded a new Divi host for Divi Toronto, and we’re thrilled to introduce you to her!

    Divi Toronto, Ontario, Canada

    Suzie Hernandez – Divi Toronto

    Meet the host, Suzie Hernandez:

As the Owner & Lead Designer of Q7 Creative, Suzie specializes in WordPress Web Design, Hosting & Maintenance. She began using Divi in 2018 and never looked back. Her primary focus is not only to build her clients a better website with WordPress + Divi but to provide them with ongoing support through personal client relationships to grow their website alongside their business.

I feel that hosting meetups with other web designers and community members who use Divi will only increase my Divi knowledge and make me a better web designer. I also want to share my knowledge and help people realize, that no matter how far along they are in their Divi journey, they all have something of value to share. It’s not just the seasoned professionals who get to share, but even new members have a lot of experiences they bring to the table. I’d like to hear from everyone.

We’re so grateful to have you on board, Suzie!

Our very own Divi-Chicago member, Nancy Mikyska, gave us an in-depth presentation of the layout she created, the Responsive Comparison Chart for Divi. Nancy is the Founder of Cymatics Web Development. She showed us how the Comparison Chart works and how versatile it is. The layout is easy to use and all the CSS coding is built in. You can style the chart easily. Clients are very pleased with the way they can put comparison information into the chart with information and graphics. And, it looks great on desktop, laptop, tablet, and phone. Perfect responsive. Congrats to Nancy for developing such a much-needed addition to a website.

    January 2023
Our theme for January was New Year, New Practices, and we kicked off 2023 with two fantastic meetings. In our Divi Mix Online Discussion, members talked about new Divi plugins and products that they’ve tried, website maintenance and security procedures, and Divi and design skills they want to learn or improve this year.
For our Divi Deep Dive, Nathan Hall from Anchor Media was our guest speaker. He presented his workflow and approach to building Divi sites, including using Storybrand principles and how to streamline the time and effort to create content for a client’s website.

    March 2023
Our theme for March was “Spring Cleaning”, and for both of our meetings, we talked about ways to spruce up our Divi websites. We had discussions and demos on how to clean up various styles, plugins, and content, as well as implement new marketing practices based on analytics and client needs. We look forward to our next few meetings as we round out Spring with more guest speakers!

    Dennis Dinsmore – Divi PHX

    Meet the host, Dennis Dinsmore:

Dennis Dinsmore is a WordPress developer originally from Salem, Oregon. He got his start in the creative field over 20 years ago as a screen-printer. Dennis moved to Tempe, Arizona to attend Collins College in 1999 where he graduated with a degree in Visual Communications with a focus on multimedia.
A Flash developer in the 2000s, Dennis transitioned to building WordPress sites in 2010 and never looked back. He has worked as a developer for small and large agencies in the Valley of the Sun but now works for his freelance venture, Lights Out Interactive.
When he’s not building WordPress websites, Dennis enjoys golfing, playing FIFA, riding his beach cruiser, or just chilling at his condo with his cats, Gracie and Tiger.

Dennis desires to lead the Phoenix Divi meetup because he has the heart and mind of a teacher. Dennis recently acquired his teaching certificate in Career and Technical Education and hopes to share his professional Divi knowledge and experience with the Phoenix WordPress community.

Dennis is leading the charge with me as an assistant (I can’t do it all 😅). I’m sooooo glad you stepped up, Dennis! 😍

Divi-Chicago Monthly Mastermind Meetup was a lively roundtable discussion about the workflow and Divi. The recent built-in, gradient, masks, and pattern background options increases the need for quality images. Finding and compressing images is time-consuming. Consider including the time factor for images in the cost of the website build.
    August 2022
The Divi Chicago Mastermind Meetup was the masterminds of Divi users. We shared new ideas, made suggestions, and solved problems. Had a lively discussion on the workflow and how to give clients extra care with Divi’s built-in features. We didn’t get ’round to the union of SEO with Divi, but this is our next month’s mastermind.
    September 2022
One of our very own Divi Chicago loyal members, Dhruv Pandya, gave a knowledge-packed presentation on ways to make your website search engine friendly, a/k/a SEO. How to do search engine optimization, and how to describe website content using Schema Structured data. Structured data is a system of pairing a name with a value to help search engines categorize and index your content. All of this helps search engines understand the content in a website. Dhruv will be giving more presentations in the future. Be sure to check the Divi-Chicago Meetup Schedule for details.

For July we had a guest speaker, Chris Settle, join us to discuss the basics of branding and how if we are able to humanize our approach, we will find success in being able to connect with our target audience. There’s a lot that goes into building a brand before one arrives at the website-building phase. Avoid common pitfalls in branding by doing due diligence in defining “who you are” and “what you stand for” and live by those attributes.
    August 2022
For August, we did a demo of Divi Presets and went through some best practices and common use cases where you might want to leverage the power of Presets to streamline and ultimately simplify your design process (in other words, avoid the frustration of going page-by-page to update button styles). We also had questions that lead to discuss Global Modules, how they are different from Presets, and a use case for that as well.
    September 2022
This month we had a guest speaker, Grady Kelly, join us to talk about the importance of UX in not just the websites we build, but in many areas of life and work where processes can be improved for even greater efficiency. We learned that one of the best things you can do to improve the UX of just anything is to talk to those who are using the tool and understand what their pain points are. Create a product that accommodates the end user.

  • WordCamp US 2022 Recap

Three weeks ago, Elegant Themes attended WordCamp US. This WordCamp was highly anticipated as it’s been almost three years since its last inception (thank you, pandemic). WCUS finally went west and was held in San Diego proper at the Town & Country resort in Hotel Circle. At roughly 650+ attendees, this was the smallest WordCamp US to date. But, that did not stop it from delivering a much-needed boost of community connection.

    The team

Our team looked a bit different this year as we had only a few seasoned folks. Half of our team was brand new to Elegant Themes and brand new to WordCamps. Our Elegant Themes WordCamp US team was as follows:
Nathan B. Weller – Content Manager
    Raquel Landefeld – Community Manager
Jason Champagne – Blog Category Editor
    Chris Morris – Blog Author
    Christina Gwira – Blog Author
    Deanna McLean – Blog Author
    Ethan Mills – Video Creator

We had a blast getting to know each other and getting to know the WordPress community.

    Sponsoring WordCamp

Elegant Themes sponsored WCUS at the Bronze level. As a sponsor, one of our favorite ways to meet and connect with our community is to host a morning meet-and-greet. This usually takes place over coffee, of course. We were ecstatic to partner with our favorite San Diegan coffee shop James Coffee Co. They came with it on the coffee and pastry front. But, the best part was our community of Divi users and supporters! Many attended including our friends at Siteground and BlogVault.

WordCamp US 2022 was a 3-day event with sessions and workshops on Friday and Saturday followed by a Contributor Day on Sunday. We held our sponsored meet-and-greet on Friday morning before WCUS opening remarks which worked out perfectly. The team divided and conquered both days by attending sessions, visiting the sponsor hall, having valuable conversations, and meeting new and pseudo-old faces. I mean, some of us created online friendships and connections but had yet to meet! It was so wonderful finally meeting those connections IRL!

It was such a delight finally having some IRL facetime with the WordPress community. As always, this is the best part of attending WordCamps. Honestly, I think most of us forgot what it was like. Thankfully, WordCamp US 2022 gave us a healthy reminder. We cannot wait to see the community again! Next stop; WordCamp Phoenix. See you there!
