  • WordCamp Sevilla: Meeting the Spanish WordPress Community

We are honored to sponsor WordCamp Sevilla as part of our commitment to the WordPress community.

If you know anything about websites, you probably have heard about WordPress. Many swear by its plugins and themes, but I would argue that the main thing that sets WordPress apart is its supportive and close-knit community.

And there is no better way to get the most out of this community than attending a WordPress WordCamp.

On November 5th, we did exactly that. A group of Hostingerians, myself included, took part in WordCamp Sevilla to learn, share, and connect with others passionate about improving WordPress.

    Why WordCamp

With over two-thirds of our clients using WordPress, we have a very real and up-to-date idea of what users love about the platform – and of its shortcomings.

Since WordCamp events are informal and community-driven, we connect with new users and experienced developers. We get a good idea of how different types of users approach our services and who they need more support from – either their web host or the WordPress community.

It’s also a learning experience, as these events help us provide the best possible WordPress experience for our clients. From performance-specific conversations to up-and-coming releases and features, there is something for everyone at WordCamp.

    Making Connections at WordCamp Sevilla

At WordCamp Sevilla, our main message was customer obsession. Since it’s one of our company principles, sharing our experiences of customer interviews with the audience was a no-brainer. During our time on stage, we discussed that simple and honest yet effective communication with clients is key to achieving results in business.

This led to many great conversations with the attendees at our booth later. We discussed topics like the pros and cons of cPanel and our custom-built control panel and the hosting needs of web agencies.

Attendees could also get some of our memorabilia and participate in our sweepstake. Four lucky winners walked away with hosting plans, backpacks, and jumpers.

We also gifted WordPress hosting plans for educational organizations that teach how to get the most out of WordPress. This way, we hope to do our part to bring WordPress closer to everyone and help them succeed online.

    Why WordPress

We firmly believe that there’s a reason WordPress is so popular and successful. Behind nearly half of all the world’s websites, WordPress makes it easy for anyone to realize their dreams online.

From thousands of plugins and themes to choose from, the open-source nature of this CMS brings the community together in an unprecedented way. Web agencies, communities of sustainable farmers, and even fetish eCommerce stores use WordPress – it’s great for any business niche.

We are also part of the Five for the Future initiative, meaning that we are contributing 5% of our company resources to developing and improving WordPress.

What does that mean in reality, though? Every week, 27 of our experts collaborate with the WordPress development teams, working on various projects ranging from back-end development to support, documentation, marketing, and more.

    Where Are We Headed Next?

We’ve been to WordCamp US, and now we have interacted at WordCamp Sevilla. It’s only natural to wonder where you can catch us next.

Our eyes are on WordCamp Zaragoza to meet the rest of the Spanish WordPress community in January 2023.

  • Say Hello to Our Brand New VPS Data Center Location in Brazil

Is there anything worse than a slow website?

For many site owners, low latency is the main obstacle to delivering the best experience for their users.

For Hostinger VPS users in South America, this is no longer the case. You can now change your server location to the newly-launched data center in São Paulo, Brazil. Get up to three times faster-loading speeds and maximum uptime for your websites, applications, or any other projects hosted on a VPS.

Improving Performance for VPS Users in South America

In the past, South American VPS clients had no choice but to use US data centers as their server locations. While this resulted in good enough site performance, it wasn’t the same as having a local data center nearby.

A speedy website ensures three things – better user experience, better SEO, and higher chances of converting visitors to customers. Establishing this data center is one of our efforts at helping our VPS customers in Brazil and nearby achieve those goals.

The shorter the distance between the server and the user, the faster it takes for the web content to get delivered. São Paulo is a prime choice for our server location as it is the largest financial, business, and tech industry hub in South America.

To see how well our new data center performs, we decided to test out the speed of a Brazil-based website that’s hosted on a VPS using GTmetrix.

On the US data center, the load time was 1.69 seconds.

After changing the server location to Brazil, the load time reduced by more than three times – at a whopping 445 milliseconds.

What Makes Our Brazilian VPS Data Center So Powerful?

Our new São Paulo tier-3 data center campus is over 43,000 square feet, offering 4 MegaWatts of total power. Every inch of that space is packed with 800 racks to deliver the ultimate server performance.

The data center is accessible by multiple telecom carriers rather than being operated by one internet service provider. When one link is down, servers can switch to another carrier to stay online.

For Hostinger’s South American clients, that means more availability and faster speed, even at peak times.

The tier-3 Brazil data center links up another node in our global hosting network and is already fully integrated and functional. If you’re a VPS client based in South America, you can switch to the new location today and see the difference in site performance.

Some of the technical hardware specifications on our Brazilian VPS data center include:

    • Special RAM sticks to support automatic ECC memory recovery.
    • Full-SSD drives to store user servers.
    • RAID10 technology to prevent outages during hard disk failures.
    • Intel® Xeon® processors to ensure the best VPS experience.

How to Choose the Brazilian VPS Data Center Location

Changing to the Brazilian server location is quick, easy, and free of charge. All you need to do is this:

    1. Log in to your Hostinger account and click VPS on the top menu.
    2. Select a VPS hosting account.
    3. On the Overview page, navigate to the Location section and click the Edit icon.
    4. Open the dropdown menu and choose Brazil.
    5. Press Next to initiate the server location transfer.

Important! Keep in mind that the IP address of your VPS will be replaced and all websites in the same account will now be migrated to the new data center. Additionally, avoid modifying your website as the changes won’t be saved.

Choose a Data Center Near You to Speed Up Your Site

With this new addition, Hostinger now offers six VPS data center locations in total. Clients can also switch to a server in Lithuania, Singapore, the US, the UK, and the Netherlands.

Make sure your website is serving your target audience when it comes to loading speeds. With a local data center, you can reduce your site’s bounce rate, increase conversions, and build a better connection with your customers.

Wherever your business takes you, Hostinger has got your back.

  • How Hostinger Helps Ethereal Corporate Network Empower Over 10,000 Students

Speed and an intuitive interface were two key elements missing from Shreyash’s previous hosting provider. As the CEO of a digital services company, he needed a partner to help him deliver exceptional service to his clients. Find out how migrating to Hostinger has helped him achieve exactly that.

    Background

Shreyash Pandey is the co-founder and CEO of Ethereal Corporate Network, an India-based IT services company. Founded in 2016, his team offers a wide range of digital solutions – from developing and designing websites to building mobile apps.

Besides helping businesses establish their online presence, Ethereal Corporate Network has launched EduPlus+, a platform that lets teachers and tutors create their own eLearning mobile app.

    Challenges

When looking for the right hosting provider for Ethereal Corporate Network, Shreyash kept several deciding factors in mind.

Speed was one of them, as he needed a web host that could make his processes faster. “With other web hosts, the response time was quite slow. As a result, uploading and downloading website files from the server was taking a lot of time,” he said.

Any slowdown in the business workflow can potentially damage the company’s relationship with its clients – and, naturally, its bottom line.

Furthermore, it was important for Shreyash to host EduPlus+ on a VPS. With thousands of students and teachers on the platform, he needed reliable hosting that could handle a large amount of data and high traffic.

Ease of use was another essential factor. Shreyash has tried several different web hosts throughout the years, but he found most of them difficult to navigate.

“I had a very poor control panel experience. When a client asked us to do an update, I had to go through several steps first. Log in, go to the dashboard, and then access cPanel – which consumes a lot of time, especially if multiple clients sent us requests.”

To grow Ethereal Corporate Network, Shreyash needed a solution that could scale as fast as his clientele.

    Solution

Thanks to a friendly recommendation, Shreyash decided to move Ethereal Corporate Network’s website and all of his clients’ sites to Hostinger’s Cloud Hosting two years ago. He found the migration process to be quick and easy.

“With other hosting providers, I faced many problems during the migration process. For instance, the DNS record update could take a long time – around 24 to 48 hours. At Hostinger, it only took 10 to 30 minutes.”

After the transfer, he noted how intuitive Hostinger’s custom-built control panel was.

Shreyash Pandey of Ethereal Corporate Network sharing how easy it is to use Hostinger's control panel, the hPanel

Furthermore, updating his clients’ websites has become significantly faster.

“Around two years back, I only did website updates once a day because of how long the process took. After switching over to Hostinger, I can do updates anytime the client asks me to. I just log in, and there I am in hPanel. The whole thing only takes me five minutes.”

Shreyash was also impressed by how simple it is to install an SSL certificate via hPanel.

“With Hostinger, enabling an SSL certificate is just a click away. In a few minutes, hPanel will inform me that SSL is implemented. At other hosting providers, there were more steps involved, such as copying the CSR from one place to another.”

Unlimited free SSL certificates are available in all of Hostinger’s hosting plans. No matter how many websites you have, you will have enough certificates to protect the connection between you and your visitors. They also get renewed automatically for your convenience.

Another feature he was impressed with is File Manager, which has been recently updated with more functionality and higher stability. “It’s quite faster and easier compared to the previous one,” Shreyash commented.

Shreyash migrated EduPlus+ to Hostinger’s VPS 5, which comes with 6 GB of RAM, 6 TB of bandwidth, and 6 core vCPUs. He noted that with other providers, he could pay for the same price yet get fewer resources.

A year after the migration, the plan has proven powerful enough to host the educational product along with its large user base.

Shreyash Pandey of Ethereal Corporate Network sharing how fast and stable the performance of Hostinger's VPS is

Hostinger’s VPS hosting comes with an industry-leading tech stack to offer the best possible performance, including Intel Xeon processors, a 100 MB/second connection line, and NVMe SSD storage. You will also get full root access to configure the hosting environment to your exact needs.

    Conclusion

We’re proud to have helped Ethereal Corporate Network optimize its workflow and save more time with our hosting services. As a result, Shreyash and his team can deliver faster service to their clients.

We’re excited to see the future growth of Ethereal Corporate Network and EduPlus+. No matter what the company needs, Hostinger will be happy to be there for them.

  • WooCommerce 7.1: Key Features

WooCommerce has released the latest version, 7.1. It contains 185 commits for WooCommerce Core and 162 for WooCommerce Blocks.

The latest version has several enhancements to help new users start their stores and cart block improvements that help maximize conversions. Moreover, it contains an update to the High-Performance Order Storage (HPOS) feature.

Let’s see the key features introduced with WooCommerce 7.1.

    Product Screen Tour

WooCommerce 7.1 adds a product screen guided tour to help new users create their first product. It includes eight guided tasks, like how to add product names, descriptions, images, and tags.

A WooCommerce edit product page with the new guided tour

If you want to try the new product screen guided tour, navigate to WooCommerce -> Home, choose Add products, and then Start with a template. Select any template that suits you and click Go.

You can skip the guide by clicking the cross icon at the top-right corner of the guide box. There’s also the Enable guided mode option if you want to reenable the guide from step one.

    Cross-Sells on Cart Block

Cart block in WooCommerce 7.1 has a new cross-sells feature that lets store owners link certain products as cross-sells and link to them from the customer’s cart. This can encourage shoppers to buy more items.

A WooCommerce cart block that includes the cross-sells feature

For example, you can add Polo and Long Sleeve Tee as cross-sells for the product Cap. When a shopper adds a Cap to their cart, they will see Polo and Long Sleeve Tee as product recommendations, complete with the Add to cart button.

To add cross-sell recommendations to a product, go to the Products page and choose one. Select Linked products within the Product data section and add the cross-sell products in the Cross-sells field.

The product data section with the Cross-sells field highlighted

    Block Patterns

WooCommerce 7.1 includes 12 new block patterns for the header and footer. With them, you’ll be able to easily construct eCommerce-specific header and footer template parts, especially when using a block-based WordPress theme.

The new patterns consist of three header and three footer designs, all available in light and dark versions:

    • Large footer
    • Simple footer
    • Footer with two menus
    • Essential header
    • Large header
    • Minimal header

To see these WooCommerce patterns, open the block inserter panel of the WordPress Site Editor and select Explore from the Patterns tab. Select the WooCommerce option in the sidebar, and you’ll see all available patterns added by the plugin.

    High-Performance Order Storage (HPOS) Update

The WooCommerce team has been working on the new High-Performance Order Storage (HPOS) feature, previously known as the Custom Order Tables project. This new version finally introduces HPOS as an experimental addition, making important progress in improving WooCommerce scalability and reliability.

The feature is disabled by default. If you want to enable it, navigate to WooCommerce -> Settings on your WordPress admin panel, open the Advanced tab, and select Features. Check the High-Performance order storage (COT) option under Experimental features.

The WooCommerce settings page, showing the Advanced tab and the option to enable the High-Performance Order Storage feature

Because HPOS is still an experimental feature, there may be compatibility issues with other plugins.

    Updating the WooCommerce Plugin

Updating plugins is straightforward. However, since your store may contain hundreds of products and continuous online transactions, you must ensure that the update won’t cause an issue on your website.

That’s why we strongly recommend using a staging environment to test the new WooCommerce version. What’s more, back up your WordPress site regularly to ensure its data is safe in case of any errors during the update process.
