  • How to Import & Export WooCommerce Products with Images

Do you want to import and export WooCommerce products with images?

Importing or exporting WooCommerce products with images allows you to easily move your store or add new products in multiple stores.

In this article, we will show you how to easily import and export WooCommerce products with images.

How to Import & Export WooCommerce Products with Images

Why Import & Export WooCommerce Products?

Many users need to import and export WooCommerce products for a number of reasons.

    • You may want to move products from one WooCommerce store to another
    • You may want to start an online store with a new WordPress website but with the same WooCommerce products
    • You may want to move your website to a new server but need a better way to move products
    • You may want a faster way to add your products to multiple stores that you manage
    • and more

Now normally if you are moving your website to a new server, then you can just duplicate your entire website and set it up on your new host.

We have a complete step-by-step guide for that, see how to easily move WordPress to a new host or server.

On the other hand, if you only want to move products, then this tutorial will help you learn how to properly export and import WooCommerce products with images and other product data.

We’ll show you two methods, you can choose one that works best for you.

Method 1. Import & Export WooCommerce Products without a Plugin

WooCommerce comes with built-in functionality to easily import and export products with images, but without using any additional plugins.

First, you need to visit the Products » All Products page in your WordPress admin area. There, you will see two buttons at the top to ‘Import’ or ‘Export’ products.

    Import export WooCommerce products

Let’s first check out how the export feature works.

Exporting WooCommerce Products without Using a Plugin

Simply click on the ‘Export’ button at the top to continue.

On the next screen, you’ll see a bunch of options to choose what data you want to export.

    Default WooCommerce product export options

For instance, you can choose to only export certain columns from product data. You can also choose to export specific product types or products in specific categories.

To export all products with images and all other data, you can leave these options unchecked.

Optionally, you can check the ‘Export custom meta.’ If you are unsure, then it’s better to check it so that you have the data.

Go ahead and click on the ‘Generate CSV’ button to continue.

WooCommerce will now prepare a CSV file and download it to your computer.

    What is a CSV File?

CSV is short for Comma Separated Values, and it is file type of plain text that separates different columns or fields of data with a comma.

You can open it with any spreadsheet software like Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel. Here is how it would look:

CSV file opened in spreadsheet software

Importing WooCommerce Products without Using a Plugin

Simply go to the Products » All Products page and click on the Import button at the top.

    Import products

If your WooCommerce store is empty, then instead of the buttons at the top, you will see buttons at the center of the page.

Click on the ‘Start Import’ button to begin the import.

    Start import

This will bring up the import wizard.

First, you need to click on the ‘Choose File’ button to select the WooCommerce export CSV file you downloaded earlier.

    Choose import file

Click on the continue button to upload the CSV file.

WooCommerce will now check to see if your CSV file is in a compatible format. After that, it will ask you to map that data to existing WooCommerce product data.

    Map columns

The default settings here will work for most WooCommerce stores.

However, you still need to review and if a column is missing, and then click on the drop-down menu next to it and select a matching field if available.

Particularly, if you are using variations attribute for products, then make sure to scroll down to the attributes columns and match fields.

    Match attribute fields

This will allow you to ensure that the fields in your CSV file match the corresponding WooCommerce fields.

Click on the ‘Run’ the Importer button to begin.

WooCommerce will now start importing data from CSV file. It will also download any images attached to your products.

    Products imported

Once finished, you can visit the Products » All Products page to see the imported products.

Make sure to visit your shop and product pages to check that everything is working as expected.

Method 2. Import & Export WooCommerce Products with a Plugin

For this method, we’ll be using a plugin to import and export WooCommerce products.

The advantage of this method is that it offers more flexible options and also allows you to export / import product reviews.

Plus, it allows you to import / export WooCommerce products in batches which comes in handy if you have a large store with many products and images.

Exporting WooCommerce Products with a Plugin

First, you need to install and activate the Product Import Export for WooCommerce plugin. For more details, see our step-by-step guide on how to install a WordPress plugin.

The plugin comes as three separate addons. You’ll need to download and install all of them.

    Download plugins

Upon activation, you need to visit the Webtoffee Import Export (Pro) » Export page and select the ‘Product’ as the post type you want to export.

Exporting WooCommerce products using a plugin

On the next screen, you need to select an export method.

The default Quick Export method automatically selects all your products for export.

    Quick export method

Optionally, you can also choose ‘Advanced Export’ which allows you to filter products by category, tag, and status.

You can also exclude individual products manually.

    Advanced filtering options

Click on the Export button to continue and the plugin will start preparing your product data.

Once finished, you’ll be prompted to download the export file to your computer.

    Download export file

Importing WooCommerce Products with a Plugin

Now that you have your export file ready, you can use it to import products on another WooCommerce store.

Simply install and activate the Product Import Export for WooCommerce plugin on the store where you need to import the products.

After that, go to the Webtoffee Import Export (Pro) » Import page and select ‘Product’ as the post type you want to import.

    Import products using a plugin

Click on the ‘Step 2: Select import method’ button to continue.

Next, you need to select an import method and upload the exported file you downloaded earlier to your computer.

    Import method

Click on the ‘Step 3: Map and Import Columns’ button to continue.

On the next screen, you’ll see a list of fields and the matching fields from your import file. If you see an empty field, you can choose a matching field for it in the next column.

If you are using product variations like sizes and colors, then make sure to click on the Attributes tab to match attribute fields.

    Map fields

However, if you are not using any products with variations or custom attributes then you can use the default settings.

Click on the ‘Step 4: Advanced Options / Batch Import’ button to continue.

On the final screen, you’ll see advanced options. For instance, you can choose to match products by ID or SKU, choose what to do if a product already exists, and more.

    Import options

If you are importing products into an empty WooCommere store, then you can use the default settings.

Finally, click on the ‘Import’ button to run the product import process.

You’ll see the progress of the import on screen. Once finished, you can click on ‘View Products’ to check if everything has been imported correctly.

    products imported

The plugin also allows you to import and export Product Reviews.

If you want to import or export the product reviews too, then simply choose ‘Product Reviews’ post type on the import or export page.

    Import or export product reviews

  • How to Create an Etsy-Like Store with WordPress (Step by Step)

Do you want to build an Etsy-like store with WordPress?

Etsy is an online marketplace for creative folks who want to sell handmade goods, artwork, and other unique items. However, Etsy can be a bit limited in terms of what you can do with your store.

In this article, we will show you how to create an Etsy-like store with WordPress, and how to properly move an existing Etsy store to WordPress.

Making an Etsy like store with WordPress

Etsy vs WordPress – Which one is better?

Etsy is an online marketplace for creative folks. Usually, people use Etsy to sell handicrafts, custom designs, jewelry, clothing, and more. It has become a niche marketplace for such unique items.

    Etsy website

However, as an eCommerce platform, Etsy is quite limited in terms of functionality. Plus, it also takes a significant portion of your earnings which reduces the profitability and long-term growth of your business.

On the other hand, WordPress is the world’s most popular website builder. It allows you to create almost any kind of website imaginable, including full-fledged eCommerce stores.

Using WooCommerce on your WordPress website you can sell anything online including handicrafts and other unique handmade items.

You can sell physical goods (that need shipping), as well as digital downloads (spreadsheets, software, music, worksheets, online courses, and memberships).

More importantly, WordPress doesn’t charge you a listing fee or a transaction fee on each item you sell.

Note that there are two different types of WordPress platforms.

WordPress.com which is a hosted platform and WordPress.org which is also called self-hosted WordPress. See the difference in our WordPress.com vs WordPress.org comparison.

Throughout this article, when we say WordPress, we are talking about the more popular, self-hosted WordPress.org platform. We recommend using WordPress.org because it gives you access to all WordPress features out of the box.

That being said, let’s take a look at how to easily create an Etsy-like store in WordPress. Here is a quick overview of the topics we’ll cover in this article.

Etsy and WordPress both enable you to sell products online but which one you should choose? Let’s take a look at the pros and cons of both platforms.

Pros and Cons of Setting up an Etsy Shop

Let’s take a look at the advantages and disadvantages of using Etsy to sell your products online.

    Pros of Using Etsy

    • Ease of Use – Setting up an Etsy store is very easy and does not require any technical skills. Simply upload your product listings, add your payment information, and you are good to go.
    • Targeted Audience – Etsy has a large customer base of users interested in unique handmade products, gift items, artistic and creative products, and more. Opening up a shop on Etsy gives you access to a marketplace with interested buyers.
    • Security and Trust – Etsy takes care of payments and ensures product delivery. This has helped them build trust among both buyers and sellers.

    Cons of Using Etsy

    • Higher Fees – Etsy charges $0.20 per listing (renews every four months) and a 6.5% transaction fee on the sale price (not including shipping costs). If you are using PayPal, then there is also a payment processing fee.
    • Lack of Control – You have no control over the platform, and how your products are featured. Etsy can remove a seller if they feel that the seller’s products don’t meet their policies or the seller fails to satisfy a customer.
    • Limited Growth Options – As your business grows, you will be paying a lot more to Etsy with limited options to grow your own brand and business.

Pros and Cons of Using WordPress

WordPress is the best platform to build any kind of website. However, it has its own pros and cons that you would want to consider.

    Pros of Using WordPress

    • Complete Control – You have complete ownership and full control of your website.
    • Unlimited Features – You can add any feature to your website by installing extensions. There are more than 55,000 free WordPress plugins that you can install.
    • Unlimited Listings – You can add as many items to your shop as you want. There are no listing fees because you own and manage the platform yourself.
    • Low Costs – There is no commission and no transaction fee on each sale. You will only pay a small fee to your payment gateway.

    Cons of Using WordPress

    • Website Management – You are responsible for managing updates and making backups. There are plugins that help you automate those tasks.
    • Learning Curve – WordPress is fairly easy to use. However, from time to time you may need some help. There are plenty of WordPress resources to help you out.

To learn more about WordPress, see our complete WordPress review with detailed pros and cons of the platform.

That being said let’s take a look at how to create an Etsy-like store with WordPress.

Requirements for Creating an Etsy-like Store with WordPress?

You’ll need the following things to build your own Etsy-like store with WordPress.

    1. A domain name (This will be your shop’s address on the internet i.e wpbeginner.com)
    2. A website hosting account (This will be the shop’s home and where all your files will be stored)
    3. SSL Certificate (You need this to accept payments)
    4. Your undivided attention for 30 minutes.

    Ready? let’s get started.

Getting Started with Your Etsy-Like Shop in WordPress

Normally, a domain name will cost you $14.99 per year, website hosting $7.99 per month, and an SSL certificate around $69.99 per year.

This is a lot of money if you are just getting started.

Thankfully, the folks at Bluehost have agreed to offer WPBeginner users a free domain name + free SSL certificate, and a 60% discount on hosting.

They are also an officially recommended WordPress and WooCommerce hosting provider, and one of the largest hosting companies in the world.

Basically, you can get started for $2.75 / month.

Let’s go ahead and purchase your domain + hosting + SSL.

First, you need to visit the Bluehost website and click on the green ‘Get Started Now’ button.

Getting started with personal website on Bluehost

On the next screen, select the plan that you need (basic and plus plans are the most popular among WPBeginner users).

After that, you will be asked to enter the domain name for your website.

    choose domain name

Need help choosing a domain name? See our beginner’s guide on how to choose the perfect domain name for your website.

Lastly, you will need to add account information and finalize the package info to complete the process.

On this screen, you will see optional extras that you can purchase.

We don’t recommend purchasing these items because they will increase your hosting bill. You can always add them later if you think these are needed.

    Finalize package

You can now go ahead and enter your payment information to complete the purchase.

After that, you will receive an email with instructions to log into your hosting control panel.

Bluehost will automatically install WordPress for you, and you will be able to log in to your WordPress site directly from the hosting dashboard.

    Bluehost hosting dashboard

Once logged in, you will see the WordPress admin area. This is where you will manage your online shop, change settings, and add new items.

    Installing WooCommerce on Your Website

Now that you have purchased hosting and installed WordPress, the next step is to turn your website into an online store like Etsy.

To do this, you need to install and activate the WooCommerce plugin on your website. For more details, see our step-by-step guide on how to install a WordPress plugin.

Upon activation, click on ‘Run the setup wizard’ button to quickly set up your WooCommerce store.

    WooComerce setup wizard

The setup wizard will guide you through the basic setup.

During step 4, you need to switch to the ‘Free features’ tab and uncheck ‘Add recommended business features to my site’ feature.

    Exclude free features

This option installs additional plugins. You can always install these plugins later if needed.

Click on the continue button to select a theme and then finish the setup. Don’t worry, we’ll talk more about theme and store design options later in this article.

Adding Items to Sell in WooCommerce

After setting up WooCommerce, let’s add a few items to sell on your online store.

Simply go to Products » Add New page to add your first item.

    Add new product

First, provide a title for your product and then a detailed description.

On the right-hand column, you can add product categories, tags, and images.

    Product options

Below the description area, you will see the ‘Product Data’ box.

From here you can set product price, inventory, shipping, and other attributes.

    Product data

Once you are satisfied with all the product information you have added, you can click on the ‘Publish’ button to make it live on your website.

Repeat the process to add more products as needed.

Importing an existing Etsy Store to WordPress

  • WooCommerce Seeks to Improve Cart and Checkout Blocks Performance

WooCommerce Blocks maintainers are asking the developer community to share feedback on any performance issues they are experiencing with the Cart and Checkout blocks.

“We’re aware there is work to be done in this area and we want to improve,” WooCommerce developer Alex Florisca said.

“We’re specifically interested in any performance related issues that may be stopping merchants or developers from adopting the Cart and Checkout blocks over the shortcode version.”

The plugin’s repository has nine open issues categorized as related to performance. Most of them are not straight forward and require more research and testing. For example, an issue with running multiple blocks of product grids was reported as having increased response times of 4+ seconds. Contributors have proposed a few different ideas to address performance issues, such as experimenting with useSuspenseSelect to improve the perceived loading experience for various blocks and finding a way to track the performance of the Cart and Checkout blocks. Neither of these tickets have seen much movement yet.

Store owners will not be eager to switch over to a checkout experience that is slower, so the WooCommerce team is seeking feedback that will help them make the cart and checkout blocks faster. So far, one user reported that due to a bug in a third-party plugin, he got a glimpse of what the block-based checkout adds to the JS asset payload.

“I think this adds at least ~300 kB (compressed) JS payload (initial numbers, my measurement process is still ongoing),” Leho Kraav said.

“We don’t plan to convert our classic theme to a block theme any time soon, but still, I feel uneasy about this direction.”

Florisca followed up on this feedback with a few cursory benchmarks comparing the legacy shortcode checkout with blocks checkout and Shopify:

    Blocks Checkout Shortcode Checkout Shopify
    Total Payload 2.9MB 935kb 6.1MB
    Total Transferred 2.1MB 1.3MB* 3MB
    Number of requests 144 77 146

“The number of requests has almost doubled for Blocks, which isn’t great so this is something that we can look into,” Florisca said. “I suspect the reason is because we rely on a few layers of abstraction on top – WooCommerce and WordPress, each with their packages and set ways of doing certain things. We can investigate if we can simply this.”

The discussion on how to improve cart and checkout block performance is still open for more developers to give feedback, and investigations are ongoing. The good news is that WooCommerce maintainers are aware of how much weight the block-based checkout adds and are actively looking for ways to improve it for users.

  • WooCommerce Blocks 9.4.0 Adds Support for Local Pickup

WooCommerce Blocks version 9.4.0 was released with support for a new block-powered Local Pickup option under shipping settings. The feature plugin offers users early access to new blocks and improvements to existing blocks before they become available in WooCommerce core.

Local Pickups introduces two new blocks: a shipping method toggle block that allows shoppers to select between regular shipping or pickup from a specified location, and a pickup location block that displays local pickup rates.

image source: WooCommerce Blocks 9.4.0 release post

These blocks can both be enabled and configured via a new local pickup settings page. Store owners can even rename Local pickup to something else, and optionally add a price for this option.

It’s important to note that the new Local pickup blocks can only be used with the Checkout block. WooCommerce Blocks also introduces a change with this new Local Pickup experience that will support location-based taxes based on the pickup address, improving tax reporting. Previously, WooCommerce based local pickup taxes on the store address.

WooCommerce Blocks 9.4.0 includes a handful of other small enhancements and bug fixes. Check out the release post for a more detailed look at everything that’s new in the latest version of the plugin.

  • WooCommerce 7.3 Introduces New Products Block in Beta

WooCommerce 7.3 was released this week with the new Products block now in beta. In December 2022, the Products block went into testing in WooCommerce Blocks version 9.1.0. It’s based on the Query Loop block and is intended to replace all of WooCommerce’s current product-displaying blocks.

This first beta version of the Products block allows users to list products based on specific criteria and their layout in the list or grid.

Version 7.3 also introduces three “commerce-adjacent” patterns for building WooCommerce store pages. These are patterns that do not tap into WooCommerce store data but allow store owners to customize the images and the links. These patterns were also tested in WooCommerce Blocks 9.1.0. They include an alternating image and text block pattern, a product hero with two columns and two rows, and a “Just Arrived” full hero pattern.

image source: WooCommerce 7.3 release post

This release also brings store owners a new multichannel marketing experience in beta. Under the Marketing menu in the admin, users can now view a list of recommended marketing extensions without leaving the dashboard. These can be installed directly from the Marketing page.

Other notable features in WooCommerce 7.3 include Pinterest and Codisto extensions added to the onboarding wizard, a new warning banner when the tax settings have a conflict, and an improved UI for creating product attributes and uploading product images.

Check out the release post to see the template changes and all the new actions and filters available for developers. The full 7.3 changelog is available on GitHub.

  • How to Use FOMO on Your WordPress Site to Increase Conversions

Are you looking to use FOMO and social proof notifications on your WordPress site?

FOMO, short for fear of missing out, is basically a marketing technique used to create anticipation and excitement for a product. It uses a basic psychology principle to help customers make a buying decision faster.

In this article, we will show you how to properly use FOMO on your WordPress website to increase conversions and sales.

How to use FOMO on your WordPress site to increase conversions

What is FOMO and How Does it help with Conversions?

FOMO or ‘fear of missing out’ is a psychological term that describes anxiety about missing out on something exciting and trendy.

As a WordPress website owner, you can take advantage of this human behavior in your marketing strategy and improve your conversions.

The concept of FOMO is not new. It’s actually been used by marketers even before the arrival of the internet. However, with online marketing, FOMO has become far easier to implement and much more effective.

For example, if you run an online store, then you can create anticipation about an upcoming sale and limited-time offers by adding social proof to your landing pages.

You can also use it to build your email list, run affiliate marketing campaigns, boost app downloads, and more.

With that said, let’s take a look at how to easily add FOMO to your WordPress site. We will show you two techniques that we have successfully used on our own websites with incredible results.

Method 1: Adding FOMO with Social Proof by Using TrustPulse

People feel more comfortable with their buying decision when they know others have also bought the same product or service and had a good experience with it.

This is why smart business owners use social proof in their marketing.

The best way to add social proof to your website is by using TrustPulse. It is one of the best social proof plugins for WordPress on the market.

TrustPulse allows you to display real-time user activity notifications on your website, such as products purchased, forms submitted, etc.

    TrustPulse

To get started, you’ll need to install and activate the TrustPulse plugin on your website. For more details, see our step-by-step guide on how to install a WordPress plugin.

The plugin helps you connect your WordPress site to the TrustPulse app.

Upon activation, click on the TrustPulse menu from the WordPress admin sidebar and click the ‘Get started for free’ button to continue.

    Connect TrustPulse with your site

This will take you to the TrustPulse website, where you can sign up for a free account. The free plan is good for up to 500 sessions per month.

Once you sign up, you are ready to create your first campaign. Simply click on the ‘Create Campaign’ button to start your first FOMO campaign.

    Create a new campaign

Next, you will need to provide a title for your campaign and select your website.

If you scroll down, then you can choose a campaign type.

Enter name for campaign and select site

TrustPulse offers 4 different campaign types to choose from.

These include showing recent activities, the number of people taking action, visitor analytics, or a static notification with helpful information.

    Select campaign type for fomo

After selecting a campaign type, don’t forget to click the ‘Next Step’ button.

You can now head to the ‘Appearance & Design’ tab and choose language and appearance options for your campaign. You can change the position, badge image, style, and more.

    Change the appearance of notification

Once done, click on the next step to continue.

Next, you need to choose how you want to capture the activity.

We recommend using ‘AutoMagic,’ which allows you to select the activity that matches different conditions. For example, you can select your checkout page to automatically capture eCommerce activity.

    Capture activity settings

You can also use Zapier to capture activities from 1000+ integrations.

Once done, click on the next step button to continue.

Next, you need to set up the display rules. You can display the badge on all pages or specific pages on your site. You can also choose the delay between notifications, run them as a loop, and enable mobile notifications.

    Change the display rules

After that, click on the ‘Publish’ tab at the top.

In the next step, simply click the ‘Launch your TrustPulse campaigns’ button.

    Launch your TrustPulse campaign

Don’t forget to click the ‘Save’ button to store your changes and then exit the campaign builder.

You can now visit your website to see your FOMO campaign in action.

Method 2: Adding FOMO Countdown Timers with OptinMonster

We have all seen marketers using ‘Urgency’ to get customers’ attention. Whether it is your local grocery store or a big name-brand website, it is one of the oldest marketing techniques, which works just as effectively online.

Basically, you show users an offer with a sense of urgency, which triggers the fear of missing out on a valuable deal and helps users make a purchasing decision.

Urgency hacks can be used with limited-time offers, seasonal sale campaigns, one-time discounts, and more. To learn more, see this article on using urgency to hack conversion rates with proven methods.

The best way to add urgency timers in WordPress or WooCommerce is by using OptinMonster. It is the most popular conversion optimization and lead generation software that helps businesses turn potentially abandoning website visitors into subscribers and customers.

First, you will need to sign up for an OptinMonster account. It is a paid tool, and you will need at least the ‘Basic’ plan to use their Floating bar campaigns.

    OptinMonster

After signing up for an account, you will need to install and activate the OptinMonster plugin. For more details, see our step-by-step guide on how to install a WordPress plugin.

This plugin is a connector between your WordPress site and the OptinMonster application.

Upon activation, click on the ‘Connect Your Existing Account’ button on the OptinMonster welcome screen.

    Connect your existing account

Next, you should see a new window open where you’ll be asked to connect your website.

Go ahead and click the ‘Connect to WordPress’ button.

    Connect OptinMonster to WordPress

After connecting your website, you will need to go to OptinMonster » Campaigns from your WordPress dashboard.

From here, click on the ‘Create Your First Campaign’ button to continue.

    Create your first campaign

This will launch the OptinMonster campaign builder.

First, you will need to select an optin type and then select a theme. We will use a ‘Floating bar’ campaign with the ‘Countdown’ theme.

    Select floating bar campaign type

Next, you will be asked to choose a name for your campaign.

Once that’s done, simply click the ‘Start Building’ button.

Enter a name for your campaign

On the next screen, you’ll see the drag-and-drop tool, where you can simply point and click to design your campaign.

You’ll see a live preview of your campaign in the right panel and a bunch of customization blocks and options in the left panel.

With the floating bar countdown campaign, the preview will appear near the bottom of the screen for you, just as it does for the users.

    Edit the floating bar campaign

Go ahead and click on the countdown timer in the live preview to set the countdown style and end date. You can use two types of countdown timers: Static and Dynamic.

The static timer remains the same for all your users, while the Dynamic timer changes based on user behavior on your website.

    Edit countdown timer settings

For this tutorial, we will be using the static timer. Since we are using a floating bar with a countdown theme, we can move the floating bar to the bottom or the top.

You can just point and click to edit the text in your floating bar. You can add a coupon code, add links to special offers, and style it any way you want.

Next, you can go to the ‘Display Rule’ tab at the top. Here, you’ll see different options for showing your campaign.

    Select display rules

For instance, you can select the ‘Time on Page’ option and show the floating bar after a user spends at least 5 seconds on your website.

Below that, you also get to select the location for your campaign. We’ll use the default setting where the countdown timer floating bar will appear on all the pages on your website.

    Set up display rules

Once you are satisfied, don’t forget to click on the ‘Save’ button at the top.

After that, head to the ‘Publish’ tab. Now, change the Publish Status from Draft to Publish.

    Publish your floating bar campaign

Don’t forget to click the ‘Save’ button and close the campaign builder.

You will now see the WordPress Output settings for your recently created campaign.

    Change status to publish

By default, your campaign will be disabled, and you just have to click on the Status dropdown menu to change it from Pending to Published.

Once that’s done, click the ‘Save Changes’ button.

You can now visit your website to see your countdown timer FOMO campaign in action.

  • How to Add Country Restriction for WooCommerce Products

Recently one of our readers asked if it was possible to restrict countries in your WooCommerce store?

By hiding your WooCommerce store from specific countries, you can control your product visibility around the world. That way, your products will only be available in specific countries.

In this article, we will show you how to easily add country based restriction to WooCommerce products or even your entire WooCommerce store.

How to Restrict Countries in WooCommerce

Why Restrict Your WooCommerce Store in a Country?

When selling products online, an online store owner can come across a lot of problems. For example, you can get a product order from a country where that product is illegal, or your payment gateways can’t process fees.

When building a WooCommerce store, it is important to provide the best user experience to your customers. You don’t want the customer to place an order only to find out that they can’t complete their purchase.

This can result in customer frustration, and it can keep them from ever coming back to your site or buying something else from you.

To avoid these kinds of situations, it is better to restrict access to your WooCommerce store or products from specific countries.

With that being said, let’s take a look at how you easily can restrict your WooCommerce store and products in specific countries.

You can jump to either method by clicking the links below:

Method 1. Restricting Countries Using WooCommerce Settings

You can easily hide your online store in specific countries using WooCommerce default settings.

First, go ahead and click on the WooCommerce » Settings option in your WordPress dashboard and then go to the ‘General’ tab.

Go to WooCommerce Settings and select General

Once there, scroll down to the ‘General Options.’ Here you will find the ‘Selling Location’ section. Simply click on the dropdown menu in the field where you will find three options.

You can either select the ‘Sell to specific countries, except for…’ option, or you can choose the ‘ Sell to specific countries’ option.

Go to General Option and select Selling Location

When you select the ‘Sell to specific countries, except for…’ option, another field will appear.

Now, just select from the dropdown any countries where you don’t want to sell your products.

Select countries where you don't want to sell your product

If you’ve chosen the ‘Sell to specific countries’ option, a ‘Sell to specific countries’ field will appear in the settings below.

Now you can select all the countries where your store will be available.

Select countries where you want to sell your product

This method is very easy to use, and you don’t have to download any additional WooCommerce plugins for it.

The main downside of this method is that you cannot hide specific products.

By restricting countries using the default settings method in WooCommerce, the restrictions will be applied to your whole online store, and users in those countries won’t be able to buy any of your products.

If you only want to hide some specific products in different countries, it is better to use a plugin mentioned in Method 2. Let’s take a look at how to restrict specific WooCommerce products in different countries.

Method 2. Add Country Based Restrictions for WooCommerce Products

The best way to hide your store products in some specific countries is by using a WordPress plugin like the Country Based Restrictions For WooCommerce.

It is a free WooCommerce plugin that allows you to hide your products in specific countries.

First, you’ll need to install and activate the ‘Country Based Restrictions For WooCommerce’ plugin. For more details, please take a look at our guide on how to install a WordPress plugin.

After you’ve activated the plugin, go to Plugins » Installed Plugins.

Go to the country based restrictions for WooCommerce plugin settings

Here, click on the ‘Settings’ link in the ‘Country Based Restrictions for WooCommerce’ entry.

Once you’re on the ‘Settings’ page, just click on the ‘Catalog Visibility’ option.

    Choose Catalog Visibility option

After you’ve clicked on the ‘Catalog Visibility’ option, you will have 3 choices:

    • Hide Completely – Restricted products will not appear in your store.
    • Hide Catalog Visibility – Restricted products will only be available by direct links, but not through browsing or search results.
    • Catalog Visible (non purchasable) – Restricted products will appear as normal, but customers will be unable to purchase them.

Once you’ve chosen an option, simply click on the ‘Save Changes’ button.

    Choose your Catalog Visibility option

Next, go to WooCommerce » All Products in your WordPress dashboard.

Locate the product that you want to restrict and simply click on the ‘Edit’ link.

Go to WooCommerce Products and select Edit

This will open the ‘Edit Product’ page. You can then scroll down to the ‘Product Data’ section.

Next, simply click on the ‘Country Restrictions’ option to the left.

Go to Product Data section and select Country Restrictions

After you’ve clicked on the ‘Country Restrictions’ option, you’ll see a ‘Restriction Rule’ field.

Simply click on the dropdown menu beside the field and select the ‘Product Not Available For Selected Countries’ option.

Select Product not available for selected countries option

After that, go to the ‘Select Countries’ field and click on the dropdown beside it.

Then, simply choose the countries where your product won’t be available for purchase.

Choose countries you want to restrict

Once you’re happy with your choice, don’t forget to click on the ‘Publish button.’

Now, if a customer from the chosen country visits your store, the product you’ve restricted won’t appear.
